Biba & House of Fraser spring/summer 2014 preview

Hello!

At House of Fraser there is an obvious definition when it comes to the store’s designer fashion. On one hand it offers on-trend, edgy labels, like Acne, Sportsmax and MCQ; on the other is the every-day, classic labels like Dickens & Jones, Label Lab and Linea. The two style elements, classic and edgy compliment each other as well as being their own entity. For me a pastel tweed car coat from Linea worn with a pair of leather trousers form Bruuns Bazaar is the perfect way to wear both styles…

And then there is Biba, a mix of both day and evening wear, classic and edgy, from sequins and silk to Jersey and leather. Now in its 4th season for House of Fraser, Biba’s S/S’14 collection is its best yet. Hot pink leather coats, sparkling bead-work, statement clutch bags and that leather detail Macintosh are some of the key pieces…Here are the pieces that caught my eye for next season’s spring/summer style…

It is also worth mentioning the Biba interiors collection; thick fluffy throw-pillows, monogrammed towels and gold, black and white porcelain dining sets… and gold cutlery.

January 2013 Metro Fashion Blogger Column

Whisty Clobber Blogger Jan 17th 2013 Header

Hello dear readers,

Here’s this month’s Metro Herald Fashion Column

Less about trends, more about maintaining interest in a tired winter wardrobe; as much as well all wear black, it’s not so tricky to add a splash of colour…

Wake up your Wardrobe

I don’t know about you but I think starting a new year in a month like January is a terrible idea. We’re supposed to feel refreshed, revitalised and ready for a new start. In reality we’re exhausted, have the ultimate holiday hangover and all we want to do is stay under the duvet ‘til March…

…March, now that’s a good month to start a new year, the next trend season is Spring/Summer after all.

Except I can’t bring myself to think about new trends yet, I’m happy in my lamb’s wool jumper and riding boots keeping warm. So instead of buying all new pieces, the next two months can be spent spicing up the ones we already have. By taking inspiration from this season’s trends and adding a transitional twist we can brighten up our wardrobe, and hopefully our winter-blues too.

Georgia Hardinge, (available at wolfandbadger.com) and the much-lauded Mary Katrantzou, are modern-day geo print pioneers. Bring a little Art Deco-inspired print into your pre-spring collection; avoid summery, pastel, floral designs and opt for bold blues and vibrant Oranges. This Biba top (pictured £69) available at Houseoffraser.com will work wonders on your all-black winter wardrobe.

Cobalt is a strong colour trend this season, Lanvin’s plain shift dress and Céline’s oversize cocoon coat made true-blue statements on the catwalks. Tame the trend with this Chupi gold ring (pictured €97/£81) available at the Loft Market.

If you’re over this season’s trends and just want to invest in something chic and classic to brighten up your wardrobe then this purple leather Cambridge Satchel Co. bag (pictured €145/£110) available at Harvey Nichols, Dundrum will see you through all seasons. Adding splashes of colour to our winter staples are a great way of preventing ourselves from getting too comfy in our winter warmerland.

Whistles S/S ’12 Round Up

Hi all,

The high street stores are showcasing and previewing their Spring / Summer 2012 collections. Most recently in to visit Dublin were COS and Whistles.

Before I saw the collection, I wouldn’t really consider myself a Whistles customer, but having seen highlights from the collection, I can say I’m definitely sold.

There were two main themes:

A bright, bold collection of neon colours and androgynous tailoring…

…including lots of matching separates, a blue tux jacket with tapered trousers,

…a pink tux with lighter pink contrast detail…

Striped separates…

Beautiful floral-print top and trousers…

The second collection was beautifully feminine, embellished nudes and pastels…

Including, new for Whistles leather pieces – scalloped nude leather…

…and laser-cut black leather…

…as well as classic shift dresses…

Good to see that the pleated midi skirt is still a wardrobe staple for S/S’12, especially in this powder-blue.

Yours,

Whisty Xx

Whistles is available in Brown Thomas Grafton Street.

Beauty Interview – Irish Independent Online

Wednesday January 20 2010 Independent.ie

Laura Whiston, a writer and fashion and style blogger from Dublin shares her make-up routine with us.

Morning routine?

After cleansing and moisturising, it probably takes about 10 -15 minutes to do my make-up depending on where I’m going. Nights out can take twice that time.

First beauty memories?

When I was eight, much to my Mum’s delight, my sister and I decided to make a concoction with her make-up. I think we’d been reading George’s Marvelous Medicine (by Roald Dahl)at the time and needless to say it was a one-off occasion!

First product ?

Not product exactly but my birthday is on Hallowe’en so it was glittery false eyelashes to go with a fancy dress costume, I’m not sure if I still have them.

What’s your top tip?

You can’t go wrong with the basics so I ALWAYS check for the foundation line between your neck and face. I probably got that from Cosmopolitan magazine when I was still in school but it serves you well, I think there are times in a girls life when she can smudge a bit and get away with it but the foundation line is the measure.

Do you go out without make up?

No, not unless it is an absolute emergency, and I don’t mean a ‘bread and milk’ type emergency. No one need ever see me without slap!

In the bag and on the wish-list?

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF15  in the bag (EDIT: Lancôme Juicy Tubes lip gloss in Lychee is also in there and something I can’t actually live without in winter) and Creme de la Mer is on the list …

What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a product and why did you buy it?

I’ve never really gone too mad, I always used to buy YSL Faux Cils mascara, it was about €25 and it lasts about a month. As good as it is, I always thought it a bit of an overspend seeing as most mascara lasts about 3 months. I’m casting round for a replacement.

Do you tend to go for bargain buys or are you swayed by the adverts?

I’m a consummate shopper, so I never bargain hunt. I’m always convinced that there is some reason why anything is cheap. I can be swayed by the amount of sales a product has made, like the Max Factor False Lash Effect mascara sold over 1 million so I’ll give that a go defo.

Where do you head for a beauty fix?

Harvey Nichols / Debenhams / House of Fraser. Big departments stores mostly. It’s such an assault on the senses.

Is there a trend you would like to see come into fashion?

I wish the whole 60’s Twiggy drawn on lashes trend would come back in for a season. I’d love to give that a go. I like fashion that’s a bit whimsical.

Who’s vanity case would you snoop in?

Christina Aguilera or Dita von Teese – I would love to see just how many (or how few) products it takes to look so pristine.

A big thanks to the utterly fabulous Sinead Van Kampen of TheSavvyShopper.ie for including me!

Update on Nude Trend

I just have to make mention of the two new entries into the stylish celebs arena that have really rocked the SS09 nude / blush trend…

Katy Perry looked amazing and proved that she is a style force to be reckoned with at this years Grammy Awards in this beautiful Basil Soda Gown.

Vanessa Hudgens kept it short and sweet and gives it some edge with fierce shoes at the 17 Again movie premier in a gorgeous Zac Posen dress.

This nude / pink / peach trend is so pretty and feminine and loads of high street stores are giving us their versions to get the look. I really like this Topshop one, it has the similar ruffled chiffon detailing and the finish the look I would add this wide black leather belt from House of Fraser but you could leave the black trim showing around the waist instead.
