Brown Thomas Spring/summer 2012 fashion Preview Dublin

Happy belated New Year.

Finally Something Inspiring! I’ve felt like I’ve been in style limbo since December. But with the brilliant sunshine in Dublin yesterday came the Spring / Summer 2012 Brown Thomas preview, in its flagship store on Grafton Street, Dublin.

Twice a year fashion eds, stylists and bloggers frock up, and bleary-eyed arrive at the invitation-only event to see the new season collection arriving in store. The event is simple and brilliant; It is a fashion show, which this featured models wearing selected pieces from 27 designers.

S/S’12’s key trends came in four main themes…

‘Flower Shower’ (New florals), ‘Sports Couture’, Modernist Monochrome’, ‘Colour’ (The new palette).

Stand out pieces included floral prints from Stella McCartney, Mary Katrantzou and Dries Van Noten. The latter doing south pacific prints on beautiful silks

Monochromes from new designer Jay Ahr (pronounced J.R.), Diane Von Furstenberg and Alexander McQueenL-R: Jay Ahr, Alexander McQueen, Jay Ahr, Jay Ahr, Diane Von Furstenberg, Alexander McQueen.

New season colours from, Peter Pilotto, Roksanda Ilincic, Chloé, Lanvin and Stella McCartney

Brown Thomas Exclusives in the Marvel Room

Not that I need an excuse to post about beautifully crafted designer pieces, but Brown Thomas opened up their Christmas Marvel Room last week.

It’s basically the perfect Christmas wish-list, which I gather is the whole point. All the exclusive and limited edition Alexander McQueen pieces, and Chanel‘s €5,350 gold and silver python bags were pretty beautiful. Prices weren’t all bonkers though YSL and Mcqueen bracelets are €160 and €120-€150 respectively.

Chanel Classic Flap Alligator clutch (Large €25,000; Small €17,800)

Chanel, classic flap sequinned lambskin bags and 1 of only 3 silver python bags, (€5,350).

Chanel, 1 of only 2 gold python skin bags.

Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen, skull print Pashmina (€225)

Alexander McQueen, silk scarf. Exclusive to The Marvel Room at Brown Thomas (294)

Alexander McQueen, silk and cashmere polka-dot skull scarf (€260)

Alexander McQueen, leather bracelets (€130-€150)

Chloé, Gabby grab bag (€2,900)

Lanvin copper metallic cosmetics pouch (€195) & YSL clutch (€595)

There was also a Tiffany & Co. craftsman installed in the room, demonstrating how their beautiful bangles and cuffs (from €490)

Now it’s all about the Christmas windows! Excited to see how they beat last years!

Happy Santa, letter writing!

A Style Post: Dead End Street

Hello All,

I hadn’t really thought about winter hats before I saw this vintage sheepskin one. I love the bond-girl look that you get with it. Cream jumpers are pretty big for A/W’11, I like the slightly puffed shoulders and extra long cuffs of this one. It makes it really feminine and unique.

The shorts are Chloé, they were originally trousers, but after getting a hole in one of the legs, I cut them into a pair of scalloped-edge shorts. Not that I would argue with Stella McCartney (who designed the Fall 2000 collection that the trousers were in), but I prefer them as shorts now.

Happy New… Season! SS2010 Trend Alerts

What better way to start the new year than with a post that concentrates on the trends designers and the high street will have us loving this season. I’ve spent the last few days perusing, debating and ruminating the lot and have pulled 1 or 2 pieces from the high street that I reckon might temp me when the weather changes. I love the snow but SS10 collections are not built for it, I’m holding out for the Spring and dying to try, Outer-underwear, bold prints – if only I could afford you Proenza Schouler – and the thoughts of getting sports-mad scares me… in a good way. If anyone can convince me Mr Wang can! Oh and not to mention SS10 hair is to die for.

SS10 Runway Hair

The cheapest and most simple way to update your look is by checking your hair. Think: Loose, casual, natural, plaits, soft waves, relaxed, tousled, romantic, feminine and soft.  These are my absolute faves:

Contender for Model of the Year 2009. #2 Lara Stone

Every time I go to the dentist, they always say, ‘You really need to fix that gap of yours.’ I’m like, ‘My gap is paying your dentist bills.'”  And so was the word of Lara Stone, talking to i-D Magazine, in November last year. So I have continued my model of the year blogging, and this German / Dutch / British lady is next on the list. French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld said about her. “Sometimes a girl just touches you” and following her campaigns with Chloe, DKNY, Givenchy, H&M, Jil Sander , Max Mara, Belstaff, Jean Paul Gaultier, Nicole Farhi and Louis Vuitton SS10, it seems many others would agree.

Lara Stone was named by UK Vogue as model of the year in their December 09 issue, of which she was the cover star. She a features in a story / shoot in their Jan 2010 issue which hit stands last week. She is highly coveted by magazine and fashion houses alike and has an edginess that few of her peers can offer. Indeed, there are very few women in the world that can make a Page 3 shoot, high fashion, see images from ID December 09 (below). A massive favourite of the magazine, she not only featured on their Nov 08 cover, but is also one of the 3 cover stars for the December 09 issue. In February this year Vogue Paris dedicated itself to Lara and featured her as the issue’s cover star and sole model promoting Carine Roitfeld to make the above statement. Her gap-tooth smile, razor-sharp cheek bones, smouldering pout and killer figure make her as commercial as she is high-fashion, here’s why.

Trend Watch – Buckled Boots

Arguably the most famous boots with buckles on are Hunter Wellingtons. But unless you live on a farm or muck out stables, they are reserved, for the most part, for an annual outing to Oxegen. Though incidentally New Yorkers are huge fans of the humble welly, I was there in April and I promise you they are the footwear of choice for all of Manhattan!

Leaving the mighty Hunter aside, designers have put buckles all over their ‘regular’ boots and I personally would love a pair; the only requirement is the more buckles the merrier! They would look incredible with dresses and skinny trews alike and would bring right through the seasons offering that edginess that plain old non-embellished boots would be hard pressed to.

These Balmain and Chloé ones are the best I’ve seen, if only my pocket matched my taste. I put it to the high street to offer something amazing and affordable for AW09!

Balmain Suede buckled ankle boots €1,059.69 Chloé Multi buckle leather boots €850

L – Balmain Suede buckled ankle boots €1,059.69, R- Chloé Multi buckle leather boots €850. Balmain and Chloé collections are available in Brown Thomas.
