Window shopping that wasn’t.

OR, In your face Whisty, what do you know anyway…

Hey all,

Confession time; I don’t shop in TK  Maxx. I first went into one in the US and I was actually horrified. It was the place where good clothes went to die and the shoppers were like vultures picking at the tattered remains…

So when my friend suggested we go in yesterday, I did all but flat refuse. She was on a mission, someone in her work had told her that she’d found a Chloe Paddington bag (oh hello 2005) for a steal. I wasn’t allowed not to go in; after all she pointed out, how could I be a Dublin fashion blogger and refuse to go into shops that sell fashion… My argument about fashion being of the moment etc, fell on deaf ears.

I sulked (think Kevin the teenager, in tighter trousers) and followed her in exclaiming how unfair it all was. And then came the egg… all over my face. From one rail and one shelf, I pulled this little lot:

That right there is what you may call a pretty beefy fashion mix of D&G, See By Chloe, Jasmine di Milo, Emilio Pucci, Calvin Klein, Fendi, Versace, Valentino, Marc Jacobs and Galliano… Cue, dress up session and tw@tting about in the changing rooms, with the actual possibility of being able to afford at least one of the designer pieces I was about to try on.

D&G dress, Marc Jacobs shoes – (Dress €179.99 Shoes €439 now €219)

Emilio Pucci jacket & blouse, Jasmine di Milo skirt, D&G high heeled loafers – (Jacket €1133, now €699.99, Blouse €1002 now €229.99, Skirt €201 now €49, Loafers €179.99)

See by Chloe Jumper, Jasmine di Milo leather leggings, (my KG shoes) – (Jumper €69.99, Leather leggings €229.99)

Calvin Klein top with leather shoulder detail, See by Chloe jeans, D&G loafers, Fendi bag – (Top €520 now €399.99, Jeans €49.99, Loafers as before, Bag €549.99)

D&G Tuxedo jacket, Valentino chiffon vest, Jasmine di Milo leather leggings, D&G loafers, Versace clutch – (Jacket €269.99, Vest €49.99, Leather leggings as before, Loafers as before, Clutch €549.99)

Galliano gown. – (Gown was €990 now €349.99)

Galliano gown (back).

What’s that, See by Chloe red jeans? You wanna come home with me? Oh go on then.  By the way, if you’re thinking about shopping in TK Maxx, when I bought these jeans the woman behind the cash desk let me in on a little secret. The Carrickmines store has way more in the ‘Gold Label’ range, which is aparently where all these pieces are from. I guess we just look for this label then…

NB: Only if the original prices were listed have I added them to the list above.

Ha, I’m glad you’ve been converted! Tk Maxx is the best, especially if you relish a rummage. Boutique it ain’t but at those prices…

Mmm must have a look in there soon, nothing like a bargain!

I LOVE your KG shoes! I’ve been looking for a simple pair of black booties for a little while now.
And wow, I can’t believe you were forced into that store, I would have leaped in and push anything and everything out of my way!

That Calvin Klein top is you! Buy it!

My view was similar to yours. Not a huge fan of out of date fashion. Love the pictures above, especially the Galliano gown. Must give TK Maxx a look over the next few days. Love saving money where possible.

So sorry I missed the get together last week. TK MaXX does yield some real bargains and I think that the Gold Label offer is a much better bargain than their regular stock which is stuff that was often rubbish to begin with. This is one shopping experience it’s definitely worth bringing a friend with. Love the red jeans also the black D&G tux jkt on the hanger in the first picture!

No fair! TJ Maxx’s where I’m from rarely have any designer goods.

I feel exactly the same as you about TK Max but those clothes look amazing and what a bargain!

Have to say, I’m not a fan of the TK Maxx in town (I intensely dislike mess and crowds) but the one in Carrickmines is a gem 🙂

  13. September 26, 2010 at 8:55 pm

I hate TK Max….it’s too messy, the clothes are pulled to bits by the crazy people who shop there and the one in Stephen’s Green is so hot and airless I want to die within 3mins of stepping foot into the shop!

But maybe I’ll give it another go, seeing that the Wonderful Whisty of Dublin has recommended so…

I got so annoyed in there the other week – my sis raves about the place and I went in to find simple sports gear and came out with zilch – whereas the mens seems to have more selection. also Id spotted the Gold Label for me, not women…so, after reading this I’ll be checking out the Carrickmines store! thx !

You bring those famous words of Fernando Llamas to mind “You look Marvelous!” Of course you too young to remember him.
