The internet has been buzzing away for the last week or so with the news that the Secret Boutique pop-up shop is holding their latest sample sale this week. I went along yesterday to preview the pieces, take a few notes and pics to post on the blog and, to basically window shop. I.e. try on a few of the amazing Pauric Sweeney bags and Pink Soda pieces and wish I could afford them, even if they are being sold at more than 60% off. Funnily enough, I did exactly that with the bags. The soft python leather in gold, silver, mustard-yellow and brilliant blue are exquisite; Pauric Sweeney’s trademark overnighter’s are reduced from €1900 to €650-€700. It is the new AW09 collection however, that I really fell for. Currently being stocked ‘exclusively’ in Harvey Nichols, the new ‘mini-overnighter’ is a smaller version of the trademark bag. See picture 4 below, the price in-store is €1404, the price at the Secret Boutique, €520. Still, it was never going to happen in Whisty world.
Pulling myself away from arm candy heaven, I got chatting to the fabulous John Mohan who was representing the Pink Soda side of the sale. He explained that the collection is all sample pieces from the company’s AW09 collection. A collection that unfortunately didn’t make it into stores before the company folded earlier in the year. This basically means, that all the pieces, that is; the beaded cocktails dresses, the silk blouses, the cashmere and grosgrain cardigans, the sequinned trousers and tops and all the winter coats, that are on sale for the next two days will not be in any stores anywhere. If this isn’t enough of an incentive then wait ’till you hear the discounts; trousers reduced from €475 to €100, dresses reduced from €500 to €100, cardigans and blouses down to around €60 – €75 and the list goes on.
Even if you don’t have some big party coming up and the last thing you want to spend your money on is new pieces for your work wardrobe, you would do far worse than grabbing an absolute steal of a bargain from here. The fact is that the quality of these pieces means that you will be wearing them for seasons to come. We all know that you can get a sequinned jacket or beaded shift dress on any shop on the high street, but the quality is not going to be as good as this at this kind of price. N.B: Collection samples are very often made by hand, which also means it’s a good idea to try pieces on before you buy them to check the fit. If you don’t want to buy something that is very on-trend, there are also plenty of pieces here that have a more classic style, so shop clever and really get your money’s worth. Choose something like a classic cocktail dress or straight-leg trousers that don’t scream AW09 to enable you to wear them for a few Autumn / Winter seasons to come.
I was totally gobsmacked when I saw the discounts on these pieces; this isn’t a collection that didn’t sell two season’s ago, as far as I’m concerned, this is a bang 0n-trend, 80% off, shopping dream. The Secret Boutique is upstairs at 6 Exchequer Street, D2 and is open Friday, October 9th and Saturday October 10th from 12-8pm.
