… Skies ARE blue…
Right that’s it! I awoke this morning to find a horribly grey day outside my window; September had definitely arrived. Like a fool I wandered into town sans umbrella, so jacket over head, the following occurred. Within the space of about 45 mins I got rained on 3 times, poked somewhere about my person by other peoples umbrellas 4 times, stood in 15 puddles and nearly got splashed by a nonchalant taxi driver…
Then 2:45 arrived and hello sunshine! It was wonderfully warm and it’s welcome rays dried my soggy boyfriend shirt in minutes. Hooray. So enamoured was I with that big ol’ ball of fire, that I decided maybe summer hadn’t just gone but was in fact rearing it’s sleepy head for an infamous Indian summer. That seasonal phenomenon that everyone goes on about except, may I suggest, actual Indians!
So there it was; my innocent stroll into town turned into a bit of a bargain bonanza. I was determined to find those end of season, summer bargains. I have a pair of DIY distressed, cut-off, denim shorts that have yet to see the outside world and it was high time they did and so was today’s fashion mission. Buy some summery but easily layered pieces to go with the shorts.
I hit Penny’s up for a bit of statement shoulder action… I have broad shoulders, or so I’m told, and therefore am a little non-plussed at the state of me in a Balmian-esque dress. I’m more Dallas Cowboys Linebacker, than retro Dynasty chic.
Luckily, I found a jersey military-style jacket with brass buttons (€19) that has the perfect amount of shoulder statement, plus the military nod totally inspired my next per-chase. A blue and white tie-back stripey tee (€2.95) from a thrift shop on Wexford Street.
While trying to stay out of, a. the rain and b. the target line of umbrellas don’t you always end up in Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre? As did I today and along with all the bored looking boyfriends I hung out at the entrance where I then spied a delish frilled top (€14.98) in the sale section at Swamp. So I bleedin’ grabbed that too wha’.
I hopped and skipped all the way home beaming with my new garms! If you click What I Wear (scroll down to Spetember 1st) I’m sure you’ll see why these were such bargainous pieces!
