There always seem to be rules about what colours should and should never be worn together. Thankfully we’re pretty lax on when to wear what colours unlike our US cousins; all that no white after Labour Day nonsense??
I still think that the rules we set for ourselves can be really restrictive though. True, some colours require confidence to be worn well, but there are ways around those fears…
Orange & Red?
These colours were all over the catwalks in recent seasons, if they are just too bright for you, try peach and pink. These more subtle colours work fabulously together, see Tommy Hilfiger SS09 if you need more evidence.
White & Cream?
White can make the cream look grubby. White and yellow work really well on the other hand. You have to accessorise with darker colours of risk looking like a boiled sweet or a canary. Try statement necklaces and edgy shoes to complete the look.
Navy Blue & Black?
Yes yes yes, I have no idea where the rumour came from that these colours don’t look great together. Try black trousers and a navy shirt with gold glads and big shades for a great transitional-season look.
Blue & Green?
Turquoise and Navy are amazing colours together especially when a crisp white shirt is added to the mix. Try navy linen rousers, the shirt and big turquoise silk scarf for a different office look.
One other note: mustard yellow & traditional Irish skins tones… never ever ever!
