Drew Barrymore’s latest movie, Grey Gardens, tells the story of the young and ambitious “Little” Edie Beale and her relationship with her overbearing mother also named Edie Beale. The movie is a remake of a 1975 documentary by the Maysel brothers that examined how the women spent their time, and their co-dependent relationship with each other.
Little Edie was a stunning social darling with aspirations of becoming an author but ended up living in squalor in what became a dilapidated house in New York State. It is Little Edie’s sweet and gentle personality and quirky, individual style that made the original documentary so poignant and memorable.
Due to air on US TV channel HBO on April the 18th, the film has been causing quite a stir in fashion circles since production began. So much so the Vogue Italia featured this article about her at the end of last year, pages above. See how her individual style feeds through to designers after the jump.
