Kurt Geiger SS’13 Collection

Hey All,

I hope you’re well.

I was lucky enough to visit the Kurt Geiger design rooms at the company headquarters to view the 2013 Spring/Summer collection. I was a little apprehensive… was it going to be like a high-heel massacre, discarded soles, frayed laces, broken stilettos and thrown away designs everywhere? “I’d definitely have worn those” ready to burst from my lips, I went in…

Of course it wasn’t like that, it was actually better than I could have imagined. Huge glass windows, designs being thought up by designers sitting at Mac, inspiration boards, sketches, swatches and photographs covering every table… and you know the odd pair of shoes…

A Style Post: Country Tweed & Urban Heels

Hello All,

You know, I was just looking back through a few past posts and I’ve only just realised how much I comment on the weather; it really is a lot.

It’s probably something to do with the fact that our Northern European climate and its unpredictable weather dictates exactly what we wear… Maybe my references to it are just an excuse when I write style posts as to why I’m wearing what I’m wearing. i.e. when I sat down to write this post, the first thing I typed was something along the lies of bright sunny autumn days. A description which easily explains why I’m wearing layers, which are necessary for those kind of days.

The boots and coat are set to be my October staples; the jumper I’ve had since last year, it’s a really loose knit so isn’t warm enough for the depths of winter, but it’s perfect for now.

Next Season Now? This season now…

… & Warehouse A/W’12 Collection Round Up

Hi All,

I often debate whether or not I should post images from new season previews immediately or wait 6 moths for the appropriate season, when we can be inspired properly.

No sooner is there is a hint of mild weather and we’re considering ditching the opaques for summer, than I’m writing and posting about what trends are going to big while we warm up for the following winter. Besides, until we actually get there, we can’t possibly know what we’ll want to buy. How many times have I looked at next season’s trends, picking out my favourite pieces only to find that when the time comes, I change my mind. (Remember the aviator / shearling trend A/W’10?)

Fashion weeks SS’13 have the internet hash-tag happy at the moment, but al I want to do is throw myself into buying clothes that I can wear right now. If you follow my twitter @whistyblogs or my FB page then you may have seen my new Kurt Geiger black suede winter boots; the foundation to my A/W’12 wardrobe.

This season’s trends; printed trousers/trouser suits, embellishments, Baroque etc… can be found in pretty much all the high street stores, including Warehouse right now.

These are a few of my favourite pieces from the collection:

Trend Stalker: Statement Trousers

Hello all,

Here’s this month’s Metro Herald column…

Tip Top Trousers

Bold, brash and in a myriad of prints, this month’s trend focus is the statement trouser. All about shape, colour and prints, it’s the most exciting way to bring your wardrobe into the new season. Prada and Miu Miu, Balmain and Prabal Gurung, all featured printed trousers in their A/W’12 collections.

Statement trousers may look a bit intimidating but they will be your best friend this season.

Clockwise from top left, Prada, Balmain, Prabal Gurung, Miu Miu

If pastel florals and earthy tribal prints are great for spring and summer, mild September needs something more vibrant. Indeed, the trick to wearing this season’s statement trousers is about being bold. Choose paisley, damask, Art Nouveau or geo-print, just make sure your choice can be seen. No wishy washy pastels here please and definitely no leggings. Slim fit, cigarette pants, or wide-leg palazzo styles give you plenty of alternative options. Not only are the print and shape of your trousers key, but the colours and fabric are even more so; deep purple, bright green or rich blue; wool, silk or brocade will ensure your pins make the perfect on-trend statement.

The high street has great budget-friendly versions. River Island’s cigarette pant (pictured left £35/€47) will give you an abstract paisley print, in metallic Jacquard. There’s a bit of last minute S/S’12 bargain hunting online at ASOS with these oriental print, acid yellow, palazzo pants (pictured middle now £17.50/€24.88). However if you like your prints of the more traditional floral nature, choose this tapered-leg trouser at Warehouse in a midnight-blue and purple floral print (pictured right £50/€65).

Perfect for autumnal days, but teamed up with a fitted cashmere polo neck and a pair of Kurt Geiger’s Lady Bell patent flats, any of these trousers will provide a perfect look for winter too. No one will be saying you are lacking in the trouser department this September, that’s for sure.

Whisty Xx

A Style Post: Studded Leopard Print Slipper Shoes

Hey All,

I’ve waited long enough to get a pair and having finally chosen and ordered a pair they arrived last week, my flat slipper shoes. They couldn’t be more OTT if they had heels. Pony skin: check; Leopard print: check; all over spike studs, check, check check. I got them on line at Sheinside.com long with the leather trim blazer.

Keeping the outfit to a black/fawn colour pallet I carried this Kurt Geiger Perspex XL Pouch, it has a wrist strap and the inside purse is attached to the outside at the seams. It reminds me of that 70′s furniture, made from thick brown glass and highly polished chrome, nicely retro.

Kurt Geiger Autumn/Winter 2012 Round Up

Hello all,

There is something to be said for being able to buy an entire outfit in one place, but there is a kind of spoil-yourself, indulgent feel to a shoe shop or boutique. If you’ve ever spent time in the shoe rooms at Brown Thomas, or Saks 5th Avenue, or the Shoe Lounge at  Harrods London you’ll know what I mean.

Like a kid in a sweet shop there are so many treats to look at and you want to try everything.

I also get a bit of a kick being surrounded by hundreds of shoes and those big chairs for trying on. Kurt Geiger is one such brand, and its A/W’12 collection has a wealth of choice.

Still got a massive crush on slipper shoes, they’re calling them Slippettos at Kurt Geiger.

Stiletto heeled lace, suede and Dalmation-print Chelsea boots

Red / black suede, lace-cut lace-up peep toes shoe boots

Classic black suede boots with straps

Yellow, lace no-heel heels… Madness

Flats:

All manner of biker boots:

Golf-shoe inspired creepers

Favourites:

Pointy flats, Slippettos and Tortoiseshell stilettos

Yours,

Whisty Xx

PS: I do think however they’re missing a trick with sales assistants in shoe departments and boutiques. I think there should be more male assistants. When spending upwards of €200 on a pair of shoes, what woman wouldn’t want a Cinderella / Price Charming moment to convince her to buy?

A Style Post: Peplum Rally

Hello, Happy Friday!

I am still chasing peplum’s for Spring/Summer ’12. I think they’re really feminine without being remotely girly. As far as I know, the peplum is introduced into fashion in the late 1800′s and later re-introduced in the 1940′s. As with many aspects of women’s fashion then, modifications are made to clothes to change the otherwise very slim female silhouette, i.e. modifications, such as peplums gave women shape and curves where there might not have been any.

I’m wearing this one with a simple, Prada silk shift to balance out the frill on the skirt. Mis-matched accessories give me two ways to add colour – the snake-skin clutch is vintage and the pink suede pumps are Carvela, KG.

A Style Post: Autumn Sun… and a thank you.

Hi All,

‘Street Style’ photographs are one of the most significant elements of fashion and style blogs. They’re my favourite part of other writers’ blogs and style posts are the most fun and the most stressful part of my own blog.

It’s a conversation that I often have with other personal-style bloggers; the awkwardness of being out in the street with a DSLR stuck on a tripod, you standing awkwardly in front of it holding your remote shutter release. All the time praying no-one brings you any attention/stops and stares/runs off with your camera. (I for one wouldn’t have a hope of chasing anyone in the outfits I choose to photograph myself in).

It really isn’t very fun and I have to be in an incredibly confident mood to wander about taking photographs of me. I know bloggers who have (seemingly adoring) boyfriends, willing to snap away to their heart’s content (pun intended), which I’m sure makes doing style posts that much easier.

But what it boils down to for me is being lucky enough to have some very patient and generous pals, happy prepared to point a camera at me and snap away. Often in the middle of a busy street, while I’m shouting instructions at them.

I guess I just wanted to say thanks, they know who they are; this blog really would be nothing without them…

Love you guys… Xxx

Blimey, you can tell it’s beginning to feel festive around here can’t you?

Style Post: Disco Kimono

Hello All,

All that glitters… I feel like a magpie at the moment. Anything shiny or sparkly and I want it. I bought this kimono in a charity shop and even though it feels like I’m wearing a post-marathon foil blanket, I love it. Any excuse and I’ve thrown it on.
