Kurt Geiger Autumn/Winter 2012 Round Up

Hello all,

There is something to be said for being able to buy an entire outfit in one place, but there is a kind of spoil-yourself, indulgent feel to a shoe shop or boutique. If you’ve ever spent time in the shoe rooms at Brown Thomas, or Saks 5th Avenue, or the Shoe Lounge at  Harrods London you’ll know what I mean.

Like a kid in a sweet shop there are so many treats to look at and you want to try everything.

I also get a bit of a kick being surrounded by hundreds of shoes and those big chairs for trying on. Kurt Geiger is one such brand, and its A/W’12 collection has a wealth of choice.

Still got a massive crush on slipper shoes, they’re calling them Slippettos at Kurt Geiger.

Stiletto heeled lace, suede and Dalmation-print Chelsea boots

Red / black suede, lace-cut lace-up peep toes shoe boots

Classic black suede boots with straps

Yellow, lace no-heel heels… Madness

Flats:

All manner of biker boots:

Golf-shoe inspired creepers

Favourites:

Pointy flats, Slippettos and Tortoiseshell stilettos

Yours,

Whisty Xx

PS: I do think however they’re missing a trick with sales assistants in shoe departments and boutiques. I think there should be more male assistants. When spending upwards of €200 on a pair of shoes, what woman wouldn’t want a Cinderella / Price Charming moment to convince her to buy?

A Style Post: 1 O’ Clock Half Struck

Hello all,

As if you’re inside reading right now!

Brightly coloured jeans are what summer is about. I like a pop of colour in an outfit but I usually leave it to just the one piece. However, having received my baroque / polka dot print shirt from Sheinside… (new love for on line shopping) I bit the bullet and went for all over colour.

Oddly, I hadn’t realised that I’d completely accessorised with black, ah well you can’t change everything all at once.

A Style Post: Mods, Rockers & Mermaid Trousers #1

Ahoy there!

Brighton, the spiritual home of the Mod.

Being a Mod at heart, with a penchant for biker-style leather, there was only one option for what I’d wear for a day trip to Brighton last weekend. I’d have to go with two outfits. A Fred Perry jumper and a Topshop leather biker jacket.

Trouser-wise, that was a no-brainer; a pair of royal blue, shiny, sparkly skin-tight leggings – which were, to my delight, renamed mermaid trousers by a fabulously camp fellow outside an ‘adult store’. I’ll go with that, mermaid trousers, at the  seaside  is too perfect.

Are you Mods…

This Month’s Metro Herald Style Column

Hello,

In case you missed it, here’s this month’s Metro Herald style column.

Metro Life is taking style advice from the people who really know their stuff, with a rotating panel of bloggers giving their top style tips. This week style connoisseur Whisty of whisty.wordpress.com returns

“ONE of the most interesting things about fashion blogging is getting to see clothing collections before they’re released into stores. Shops like Oasis, Penneys / Primark and River Island get in touch twice a year and invite bloggers, fashion editors and stylists to view their collections for the coming season.

If you’ve ever watched The Devil Wears Prada, you will know the cerulean speech – when magazine boss Miranda Priestly tells assistant Andy exactly how it was that she came to wear a blue sweater that day. The gist of it being, that although Andy thinks she has made a sartorial choice that separates her from her fashion mag colleagues, as Miranda explains, she is in fact, very much a part of the fashion chain, albeit the weakest link.

Another point about the speech is how trends filter down from designers to the high street and so on. Collections are shown at international fashion weeks about six months in advance of the season. From there you can see how trends, styles and colours have all been translated from the designer collections to the high street a month or two later.

For example, one trend that was big on the catwalks for SS2012 was the peplum; a kind of mini frill attached to a top or a skirt that sits on the hips. Designers like Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Nina Ricci and Jason Wu all did versions of the peplum.

By the time the high street collections were launched, just about  every shop had a version in their collections.

Inspired by Post – Be Blonde

Hey all,

So after the summer ’12 inspired fashion post on Wednesday, I reckon it’s time I looked at summer hair. I want to go blonder, not screen-siren structured blonde. I mean more California blonde, that perfect clean, surf-y, fresh kind of blonde.  Hair that hasn’t seen a curling iron or straightners, (or at least doesn’t look like it has), hair that is blonde from root to tip, naturally sun-bleached or otherwise, as long as it is blonde, not ombre blonde.

Simple, brilliant, stunning blonde.

Model Blonde: Abbey Lee Kershaw

Rock Blonde: Anita Pallenberg

Editorial Blonde: Anja Rubik (for Vogue)

Beach Blonde (via weheartit)

Shameless Blonde (weheartit)

Classic Blonde: Brigitte Bartdot

Controversial Blonde: Courtney Love (for Elle Mag)

Blonde Fringe: Blondie in a Hoodie at CBGB’s

Smirnoff in a can blonde!

Mod Blonde

Windy Blonde: hair blowing in the wind (weheartit)

Ever noticed how beautiful blonde hair looks in black and white photography?

Whisty Xx

A Style Post – Cobalt and Teal

Hi All,

S/S’12 and all those great new trends and colours we’re yet to wear! I wear black and navy blue so often that I long for bright colour pops when spring comes around.

Trend-wise I love the Tropicana prints at Stella McCartney, Salvatore Ferragamo and Dior. Tropical prints featuring palm trees, parrots, surfers and even mermaids (Versace) have .

Colour-wise, I love the  shades of rich blues and greens; I presume that when Spring / Summer colours are presented each year very often they’re pale pastel shades so as not to alarm us? Pretty but also pretty plain. I prefer the bold strong colours that filter through as the season progresses.

And boy am I getting ready to wear them.

Now I’m of the nearest Tiki bar for a piña colada, while I wait for some tropical sunshine.

Alice Delall & Chanel Boy Bags

Hello!

Happy friday, I do love a 4 day week…

To take me into the weekend, I’m channelling the latest Chanel ads featuring Alice Delall. (The only person who really still gets away with having her head shaved at the temple) I love the way the shaved part of her head is decorated on the second image along with that large black bow in her ponytail.

In admiring the style of Alice Delall and her taste in music, I think she’s a perfect fit for the paired-down chic of the Chanel Boy Bag collection.

One thing about this ad campaign, snapped by Karl Lagerfeld, is that with possible exception of the loose knit white skirt, (image 4) you could pretty much see Alice Delall wearing all of this stuff. Unlike the cute, Tiara-wearing Lily Allen in the Coco Coccoon ad campaign, the look of these ads; the baroque-style luxurious (hotel?) room, the perfect make-up and pretty hair styling, the heels, are all juxtaposed perfectly with Delall’s bad-ass personal style.

The Bags…

Whisty Xx

We Need More Art in Fashion Editorial

Hello,

I hope you all had a fab Easter, I was at a bloomin’ great wedding, held at a beautiful country house hotel near the sea. It was great and I’m exhausted. I got to spend the next day recovering at the beach, eating ice cream and playing pirate tennis.

Anyway, I just saw this beautiful spread from Vanity Fair Italia. It’s decorated with illustrations by Giorgia Ricci, an Italian artist. The spread was from earlier in the year and I had only discovered the images last week and I wanted to share with any of you who hadn’t seen them either.

I wish more editorial spreads could be illustrated like this; at a time when magazines are using street style inspired features and / or images, I want to see fashion editorials use images that create a fantastical, unattainable edge. Something that separates fashion from what we see everyday.

Here’s a very similar image from Giorgia Ricci‘s Homepage that wasn’t included in the Magazine.
