Kildare Village Festive Spirit

Sometimes you’ve just got to get in the festive spirit. This time last year we were knee-deep in snow and even Dublin airport was struggling with the Christmassy weather. This year however, Dublin is looking positively un-Christmasssy, I reckon people aren’t even putting up Christmas decorations at home either.

Having tried and failed to get the apartment to look remotely festive (a bit of manky old tinsel over the TV does not a festive sitting room make), I’ve suggested that we go to Kildare Village instead.

I went there last year (by train) and the decorations were so pretty, you feel Christmassy as soon as you’re in there. A couple of glasses of wine at L’officina may have helped in that respect.

There aren’t many High Street shops that I wish I could afford to spend more money in; however one of them is Jack Wills. Luckily, their outlet shop Kildare Village is one that I can afford to spend more money in. I went a little crazy when I first discovered it and its cheap-as prices. E.g. 60% off women’s shirts.

I’m sure it’s wishful thinking, but I really want this Crombie-style ‘Marbury’ jacket. If they don’t have it in the Kildare Village outlet store… Santa, I really hope you’re reading this.

Incidentally, I just ‘liked’ Kildare Village on Facebook and entered their Festive Secrets Christmas competition (it closes Friday, 23rd). I’m holding out for the unlimited free pass to OPW tourist attractions.  May as well give it a go, right?

Whisty Xx

River Island – S/S’12 Preview

Hi!

All the retro inspiration of both runway and street style over the last few seasons has translated into some interesting High Street collections. River Island‘s S/S’12 collection is a mash-up of ’90′s RnB culture and Versace – inspired pieces Vs 60′s Chelsea Girl and psychedelic prints. Makes me want to dress like Salt’n'Pepa and listen to the The Velvet Underground.

Chelsea Girl was originally a British High Street store that opened in 1965, before transforming itself into River Island in 1988. The design of the modern Chelsea Girl collection is headed up by River Island 2007 Bursary winner, Lucy Moller. A graduate from Dublin’s NCAD. The collection includes original print designs taken from Chelsea Girl pieces that were both bought from eBay, and sourced from staff members at River Island.

A Style Post: Cavemen knew best

Hello All,

Apart from exclaiming, ‘Oh Holy **** it’s cold!’ I haven’t really got much to report today. I’ve looked out at winter, while curled up on the couch, under a blanket, writing all afternoon.

Dressing for cold weather has been a slow learning curve for me, but I’ve finally realised that to keep warm in Winter, I’ve got to go with natural fabrics. Fur, leather and wool being top of the list. I swear I’m reverting to the closet of the Cave-woman,  One Million Years BC, with heels.

Penneys Spring Summer 2012 Preview

Hi All,

Penneys (Primark) showcased its early Spring / Summer ’12 collection last week in Dublin. It is a pretty large and varies collection, as you’d expect from Penneys; this part of the S/S’12 collection will be in store between now and late February.

It comprises some great print designs – see the (amazing) cars, Dalmatian dogs, daisies and Hawaiian panther designs below; pretty pastel shades – including a pale turquoise called ‘Seafoam’; as well as some classically tailored pieces – see the tuxedo-inspired jackets below.

Yours,

Whisty Xx

Brown Thomas Christmas Windows 2011

Hi All,

Time to open up the first door of your advent calendar!

To celebrate December 1st and the date when it’s OK to feel festive and Christmassy, we’ve gone all dreamy with the ballet inspired Christmas windows in Brown Thomas, Dublin. The only Christmas windows worth looking at in Dublin in my humble opinion. (See 2009 and 2010 here).
