A Style Post: Dressed Down in Ashtown

Hey All,

Gone are the days of dressing in your ‘Sunday Best’. The Sabbath is now a dress-down day for most of us. Jeans and Tshirts are the ideal uniform for long Sunday lunches and walks in the country, (or Ashtown in my case). It’s about as close to the country as I get to be.

Incidentally the jeans are Beg Borrow or Steal, which have just been released in Ireland, I can honestly say that they are the comfiest jeans I’ve ever worn.

A Style Post: Bow-tied, village life

I’m developing a bit if a crush on the boyish trend for this A/W. I like the way you can either hint at it or embrace it and take it all the way. It’s rare you get to do that with trends. Right now I’m mixing it up with a 70′s-inspired flared jean. A bow, tied at the neck over a masculine shirt is a my way of introducing boyish into my wardrobe.

I can’t get over Highgate village…

Louise Kennedy A/W’11

Hey All,

Standing in a Georgian Townhouse on Merrion Square, listening to Edith Piaf is a pretty great way to spend an afternoon. Doing that with a glass of Champagne, watching the Louise Kennedy Autumn/Winter 2011 fashion show, even better.

The collection is classic, luxurious, chic, elegant and retro. Most of the words you usually associate with Louise Kennedy collections, though the retro was definitely more emphasised this season. The 40′s and 50′s inspired pieces dominated the collection, with tweed jackets, fur collars and coats, long leather gloves and lace shift dresses.

Coast A/W’11 Preview

Hey All,

Patterns, textures and classic dresses

Cashmere and embellishments

‘Bianca’ v’s ‘Jerry’ – new A/W’11 stories

Green faux fur

Black faux fur and more texture

Diamonds and Pearls

Classic A/W’11 colours, Black, White and Red

Coast had their preview in Dublin today. I rarely have occasion to dress in something so classic, and in reality, my style is a little more dishevelled to do pretty prom dresses and gowns justice. But this Merlot, backless maxi-dress was too perfect to not try on.

Dublin’s – Fashion’s Night Out 2011

Hello,

Armed with nothing but a camera and a slight concern that I hadn’t RSVP’d to the right people, I hit Dublin for Vogue Fashion’s Night Out.

First stop was Grafton Street for a few style post snaps.

Breaking in my new Warehouse leather / studs cuff

Next, it was to the HQ of Dublin’s newest design collective, Project 51 on South William St.. Designers including Sinéad Doyle and Que-Va, showcase their designs here

The party

A unique way to display the designs.

The stuff of fables, Aesop’s  Fox and Crow necklace from Saba Jewellery.

Horse & June vintage boutique, on Drury St.  was our next stop, Mojitos and nibbles with, owner  Zoe Wong.

Next was BT2 on Grafton St. Meeting up with Stephen Moloney, FINALLY back from his summer in London was great fun. Plus, I love dressing-up shopping; picking up things that you can’t afford and putting them on just for fun. That’s what BT2 were asking people to do with the help of Linda Conway. She was incredibly patient with me as I demanded this that and the other piece to try on. I chose a Shearling coat and leather skirt by Maje, sandals by Pinko, and a silk shirt by Equipment.

Last stop, South William, on South William St. for a nightcap.

The Invasion of Whisty… North London

Hello, ‘Wish you were here’,

Postcards from London…

The City of London, from Highgate Bridge, London N6 – The invasion began, my mates room, trashed as soon as my bag landed. So out we go and straight into town

First stop was, lunch at Sketch with Sophie from ASOS… Mine was the black bread Croque Monsieur

If portaloos were like this… the bathrooms at Sketch, Conduit Street, London WC1 W1S

Evening drinks with Amy and DSThe Boogaloo, Highgate, London N6

The Boogaloo Moggy… How much do I want that to be a G’n'T…?

Feeling nostalgic for the ’50′s at the ‘World Famous Boogaloo Juke’

The Notting Hill Carnival, 2011Passes for the fabulous Wrangler Carnival Party, at Bumpkin, London W11

Our welcome party at Westbourne Park Tube station

Our talented and incredibly down to earth entertainment for the evening, Maverick Sabre. In case you’ve ever wondered, being half cockney (he was born in Hackney) half culchie, (raised in New Ross, Co. Wexford) gives you one hell of a mad accent. Even so, he played a bloody beautiful acoustic set. Image via glam.co.uk

Post Party; neon specs and pints at The Good Mixer, Camden Town, London NW1

Hair of the Dog…

Whisky Cider = Whisty Heaven

Getting my tourist on. Note actual rucksack. At Highgate Cemetery, armed with map and nerves of steel. This is one atmospheric graveyard.

Peaceful in the woods

And back to the land of the living…A rainbow at Aces & Eights Saloon Bar, Tufnell Park, London NW5. If I could imagine the kind of place Huey Morgan would live in, this would surely be it…

Back to Highgate Village, before calling my Mum to tell her I’m effing nackered.

Massive thanks to DS, Amy, Lynda & Sean, Sophie, Holly at Wrangler, and Ashley, for graciously returning a favour. Xxx

River Island Christmas Showcase

Hi,

So I have one thing to say when it comes to the pieces that River Island have in store for us this Christmas season, it’s so 90′s Dahling. Think Ab Fab and you have it.

All bright Versace-inspired prints, black velvet Lycra and body suits with sheer panels.

I was also given the chance to pick two pieces from the collection and photograph models on the roof of the Morgan Hotel in Temple Bar. I couldn’t not have the Spire on O’Connell street in the background could I?

The stretch velvet & lace body suit and the (tiny) jersey & lace mini dress. (Back photo above). Too 90′s; Too fabulous.

Yours,

Whisty Xx

A|wear A/W’11 preview

Hey All,

A nice change to write about a preview relevant to the season for once. I went along to the A|wear Autumn / Winter 2011 preview today. A mix of textured 60′s & 70′s pieces in autumnal and jewel tones, means that A|wear is in-tune with the rest of the high street; (its lower price points being the thing that will pull in the shoppers).

Highlights Include, Faux Furs, Especially Black

Classic Tasselled Loafers

Textures, Prints and Chunky Knits

Patent Mary-Janes and 3-tone leather bag

For me the two real stand out pieces; grey cigarette pants with ‘leather’ trim to the waist line and pockets…

…and the green tweed jacket, with bow detail being my favourites.

Bow detail.

Yours,

Whisty Xx
