Wild Child Originals, Dublin

Hey All,

This week I’m mostly craving printed maxi skirts and dresses. 60′s / 70′s vintage printed, maxi skirts and dresses to be more precise. Since I’d noticed Wild Child vintage clothing had moved from Georges St. Arcade to Drury Street., I thought a bit of window shopping / dressing-up was in order.

The new shop, 26 Drury Street

Navy printed 70′s maxi dress

Mint-green embroidered 70′s maxi

Ground floor, a row of vintage cowboy boots, (sans cowboys unfortunately).

First floor, vintage frocks and furs

The basement, seriously Sweeney furniture.

I think I want to go to a party wearing the mint-green dress above. One where I get to sit in this chair and drink Babycham and brandy, while smoking cigarettes through a large, gold cigarette-holder.

Red Dress & Last Days of Summer

Hey All,

I love the fact that Dublin is on the coast, sea air and Sundays are essential if you love here. Plus my two most favourite things about Dublin are in these photos; seagulls (though it’s more about the noise they make) and the candy-striped towers at Poolbeg. The dress is from Topshop; they have them in about 8 different colours, I just loved the red.

New Boots versus A Night Out

Hey All,

So you might’ve realised at this stage that I have a second, nearly-all-consuming passion. Not only do I frikkin adore all things sartorial, I quite like listening to a bit of music here and there too.

Luckily then, Dublin is pretty darn fantastic for live music. Last Saturday, for example, I went along to watch The Revellions, at Sweeney’s on Dame Street.

Normally I would throw on Docs or Cons to go and watch a gig, but Sweeney’s is a pretty tidy venue; and I had just bought an amazing pair of suede KG boots from Brown Thomas

Luckily, (or miraculously) they survived a night of jumping about, swigging pints and generally acting the eejit. Plus, they made me about 6ft tall and I got to see the entire gig wherever I stood. Nice!

Incidentally, that belt is a guitar strap from Walton’s on Georges St. and the bracelet is a bike chain from Fresh in Temple Bar… in case you were wondering.

Hat, Dunnes

Leather Jacket, Vintage Topshop

Check Shirt &German Army Shirt, Thrifted

Bracelet, Fresh Temple Bar

Shorts, DIY Distressed

Guitar-Strap Belt, Waltons

Shoes, KG at Brown Thomas

Stellar Magazine: Trend Hunted

Hey All,

I’ve got loads to blog about this week. I had such a great weekend in the Dublin sunshine; I went to an amazing gig on Saturday; if you get a chance to see Dublin band The Revellions at some point, do it. I spent the next day making the most of the sea air at Dun Laoghaire seriously, Teddy’s ice cream is the best cure ever.

Yesterday I was flicking through my copy of Stellar Magazine, and was honoured to discover they included Whisty in their Trend we Heart pages this month. I frikkin love Stellar anyway so being included in the mag is amazing.

I teamed the dress with vintage leather – Docs,  jacket and belt – and the lace bolero in this photo. But I wore it at Dun Laoghaire on Sunday, on its own with a leopard-print wrap. (Pics to follow during the week – promise). I love when clothes are that versatile, I reckon I’ll be wearing this dress right through till winter.

More Inspiration: Jeffrey Campbell Look Book Love

Hey All,

I’ve researched like a nerd this week. Chained to the internet, looking for inspiration, I came across the AW10 collection / look book from Jeffrey Campbell. As amazing as some of the shoes inevitably are, the campaign imagery itself is awesome too.

Grimey – check; Graffiti – check; Tattoos – check; Hot shoes – duh… check!

I would very much like the fur/fringe/knee-high boots on the photo on the left please.

In the event that I fail to get the previously perved-on boots, the black lace-up/platform/mid-calf boots on the left, will suffice thanks.

She’s a Stone_Cold_Fox: Label Love

Hey All,

I just discovered the Stone Cold Fox label and I’m lusting after it all. It’s vintage inspired, made to order and is pure silk and velvet heaven. Their campaign imagery is stunning; Carolyn Dorian photographed by Lauren Taylor, and now all I want to do is go and wander around Arizona (or somewhere hot and dry), in lashings of washed silk. It’s available on StantonJames.com.

Love the name too, ‘Fox’ always reminds me of Garth’s ‘Foxy Lady‘ Hendrix dance from Wayne’s World.

Fred Perry’s, Menswear and Music

Hey All,

Apparently we’re set for a bit of summery weather this week. In eager anticipation, I’ve pulled out my ancient Fred Perry polo shirt. I thrifted it when I was in 6th Form and have worn it religiously every summer since. Fred Perry‘s are quite tomboyish, but I love how they represent so many elements of music and sub-culture.

The website, for example says: “1959: The fledgling British Mod movement members were quick to pick up on the shirts suitability for nocturnal activities. …top button fastened under … a mohair suit and durable to wear all night long and still look fresh in the morning. It became the first crossover brand from sportswear to street wear”.

Music and Fred Perry seem to have moved hand-in-hand ever since. Through the 70′s and 80′s with bands like The Jam and The Specials. To the 90′s with Britpop bands like Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene and Blur. This autumn sees the launch of Amy Winehouse’s collaboration with the brand, sketches here:

Eh, me again.

Should the sunshine fail to appear; I was in BT2 last week and crushed hard on the A/W’10 range of button-down collar, plaid / check shirts by Farah. I’m thinking this one should do it.

Get on the ’80′s style vibe by watching the new Shane Meadows’ ‘This is England’ mini series that starts next month on Channel 4:

Aviator Shearling Boots & a Parka

Hey All,

So the bank holiday proved nothing spectacular, weather-wise. Rain however, is a great excuse to try transitional trends and the new season must haves, right? I was totally smitten with the Burberry Prorsum Shearling boots  at the AW10 shows (who wasn’t). And have waited to see the trend trickle through to the High Street. So as soon as I saw these 5-buckle brown River Island ones, I knew they would be my winter staple footwear. I love them and they’re super-comfy too.

I turned the tops down and kept the top two buckles open, I think it looks more casual.
