Morrocan Inspired

Hey All,

Just a quick Weekend fix. I know I did the post last week on long white maxi’s (still loving). I just saw the new AW10 campaign images from Monsoon. Not only do I want to go to a souk in the worst way, I want to dress like this when I go: (It’s all very Rolling Stones in Morocco, no?)

More Specifically in either one of these BLACK maxi’s. Be in no doubt, I shall have this dress. (They’ve called it the Farah Maxi, like I needed another reason. €110).

On the failure of me getting my mitts on that one, this one, with a mini dress underneath, will suffice (Mouroux lace maxi €280 (eek)) :

The rest of the campaign images are also pretty great. I love the colours, the attitude, the setting, the models, ah the whole kit and kaboodle. (After the jump). Continue reading ‘Morrocan Inspired’

Family Affair: The Gainsbourgs. et al.

Hey All,

Happy Friday and happy loooong bank holiday weekend!

So today sees the ‘general’ release of Gainsbourg. A movie about the French singer-slash-songwriter-slash-actor-slash-director, Serge Gainsbourg.

The movie focuses on his life including his song writing (see Je t’aime among others). It also looks at his personal life; when famously, after a couple of previous marriages, and a brief affair with Brigitte Bardot, Serge Gainsbourg, married the delectable Jane Birkin; with whom he had Charlotte Gainsbourg.

Birkin, however, left Gainsbourg after a several years. She then met and married another Frenchman; film director, Jaques Doillon. Together they had the fantastique Lou Doillon. Who’s style I am crushing hard on. The girl has a penchant for hats, skulls, leather, short-shorts and tight trousers among other things, of course I’m crushing.

I’m posting a bunch of photographs of all 4 of the above mentioned women and Serge, just to scroll through and be inspired by…

Guest Blogging Over at Chez Hermia

Hey all,

There is a little story on the perils of me shopping for a suitable frock for my friend’s wedding over at A Chick Named Hermia today. A guest post as it were, because The Herms is off gadding about Paris, the lucky blogger! It’s not the usual type of Hermia post so I’m sure her readers will be a bit, meh about it but whatevs, I’ve got a wicked new dress (or two).

Style Post: Grunge Revival

Hey All,

Long time no blog. I was honoured, to be asked to guess-post for one of  Ireland’s best blogs; A Chick Named Hermia last week. So I’ve worked my little fingers off, typing away at that for the last few days. I have no qualms about writing for my blog, but wow, I actually felt a tinsy bit of pressure writing for someone else’s. But anyway, link to follow when / if the post goes live over at Hermia. Promise!

I did however find time to go wandering about, among some old farm buildings. I dunno why, looking for some sort of illegal rave / barn dance-type affair possibly. For some reason, I feel like I have to be dressed, ready to attend some sort of festival at any moment during summer. Probably explains, not only the barn-wanderings, but also the fact that I have enough pairs of Doc Marten’s and flannel shirts to dress a Pearl Jam tribute band.

Mini Trend – White Maxi Dresses

OR: One wholly inappropriate sartorial choice for a soggy Irish summer.

Hey All,

I’m crushing on every one of these photographs. I know that ankle / floor length white dresses and puddle-ridden Dublin streets are not exactly a match made in heaven, but still. I very much would like a pretty white maxi dress immediately please.

I saw the post-Glasto pics of Florence Welch in hers and since then, I’ve seen long white dresses everywhere. They’ve been teasing me saying, oh go on, you know you want to. And I do want to, especially the sheer skirted ones and I’d wear it with my scruffy old pair of black Doc Martens to boot.

Tall Ships and Shades of Grey

Hey All,

You know sometimes when you just have a really great week? Enjoying being around genuinely good people and the like? Well that seems to have been the running theme of my week; So to all the people I ‘enjoyed’ in the last 7 days, cheers and thank you (loads!).

There was also a bit of a French theme thrown in as well. Bastille Day was Wednesday so that might have something to do with it. Anyway, I went to see The Concert on Monday; good grief that is one heck of a film. Melanie Laurent (Shoshanna Dreyfus, Inglourious Basterds) is in it. Nuff said? Yeah, nuff said. If you don’t mind subtitles and Tchaikovsky have a think about seeing this one on the big screen. It ‘s beautiful.

I also went to the French Market by the Samuel Beckett Bridge. I saw the bridge for the first time about a fortnight ago and I was actually dumbfounded. I love it. I was like, I gotta take some photos with that, so I did. Et voilà!

Yeah, it was a bit windy alright.

In Boots.

Hey All,

Wow busy blog this week, after three posts in as many days, I think I might just have to have a little lie-down!

So yeah, I had kind of a hard morning and was feeling a little bit rubbish to say the least. Boozy dinners at friend’s gaffs will get you every time. So on the way into town this morning, I was sitting on the bus (oh yes, Whisty, keeping it real…) and I thought that I really hadn’t had a proper fashion perve for a long time. And then I remembered.

I was walking past Brown Thomas last week and their new AW10 windows are up. I actually stopped in the street because I saw these in the window. So having wiped the drool from my face, and a smidge from the bus window, I decided to heal my poorly head and go in and try them on!

Ta da. You know what I didn’t even look at the price tag… €200 / €2m, it’s all the same to me; out of my price range. But for those 5 minutes, (4.5 mins of which the girl assisting me looked very edgy and I swear I saw her make eyes at security. I was like, I’m hardly going to outrun a flippin security guard in these darling, chill)… for those 5 minutes I was in my very own pair of red soled Christian Louboutins

Style Inspration: Jennifer Herrema

Hey All,

Just wanted to say a big bloomin thanks to all y’all who’ve bigged up the auld Barnet Fair over the weekend! I’m massively overwhelmed! Still loving the new fringe; you find a good hairdresser you gotta keep ‘em, right!?

Speaking of fringes, I just came across this photoshoot by Mike Piscitelli for Urban Outfitters with Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux. It’s just a bit of inspiration for a Monday evening.

Click here for the full interview and more pics.

The YouTube below is the first of a series of video interviews, produced to promote Jennifer’s Road Tested range for Volcom Brand Jeans.

She Bangs.

OR: I have a fringe.

Hey All,

Thought I should do a VERY brief post on the fact that I have kind of new hair. I haven’t had a fringe in a long time. (I think about ten years?)

Based on that information, you may think I’d've been pretty nervous about it getting one. But strangely, I really wasn’t at all. I went to Style Club on South William Street and this would be how the conversation went:

Hairdresser Extraordinaire: Hey there, Whisty*, what are we doing for you today?

Whisty: Well I’d like a fringe please Mr, hairdresser. I brought in a photo…

H.E.: Okay, great, let’s see…

W: Here you go; I know it’s a boy hair cut, but…

H.E.: Yeah… but it’s Brian Jones…

W: I love you Mr hairdresser!

H.E.: Please, call me Dearan.

*Name has been changed to protect the smug.

So with that, I had my balayage done and a couple of snips later, ta da! I was the proud owner of a new ‘do. And I like it!

In Shades, in Homage.

How very odd, posting about my hair. I swear fashion will resume tomorrow!

Xx
