I’m off out dancing this evening, it’s a long time coming and I cannot wait! So excited! In the meantime I’ve been thinking about subcultures, especially after posting about the pyjama girls the other day. I’m just posting these to represent a couple of the most well-known music-based subcultures of the last 60 years.
Teddy Boys, Mods, Punks and Skins.

I like to think of myself as a bit of a mod
And to be honest, I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one clinging to the subcultures of the past – there used to be (still is??) a really good clubnight in Leeds called ‘Brighton Beach’ where full on mod/rocker dress was required to gain admission. A few Northern Soul records later et voila, 1964 again!
Hey Rosa, I know so many people who are obsessed with the 60′s, it’s like the perfect fashion / music era so it’s no wonder. I’m sure I heard about a Brighton Beach night in Camden, North London too during the Brit Pop era. Sounds amazing that you have to dress Mod / Rocker to get in!
Funny how a seemingly rebellious subculture has such strict rules about what to wear. The punks with the pink hair in that picture look like mindless sheep rather than anarchists!
the guy in the first photo on the far right looks like yer man from crystal swing!
Hahaha! Brilliant!

I just think is great the way how they express themselves (clothes)…
