Monday August 17th sees the opening of a ‘pop-up’ boutique in the painfully trendy area of Cow’s Lane, Temple Bar. For the following 6 days we will be able to browse and buy “some of Ireland’s most cutting-edge collections” for AW09. I don’t really know too much about Fashion Breakthrough who are running the event but of themselves they say the: ” The purpose of the project is to keep young designers connected, to provide a high profile showcase for some outstanding work and to promote sustainable Irish Fashion”. In any case, any event that intends to promote emerging fashion design has to be worth a shout out.
The 6 day fashion event promises to “stage an Uprising” as it showcases the talents of 13 “fashion creators”. It all starts on Monday with the opening of the ‘pop-up’ boutique at 4 Pudding Row, Cow’s Lane, Temple Bar. The Fashion Breakthrough peeps are saying of the boutique that “you’ll find unparalleled variety and unique pieces from our up-and-coming Irish designers who will themselves be on-hand right through to Saturday to offer personal consultations and expertise”.
On Tuesday from 7pm there will be a catwalk show held in a marquee in Meeting House Square, featuring “inspiring ensembles by the top names to watch in Irish couture”. Some of the designers that will be showing their collections include, Zoe Boomer, Sophie Rieu, Bebhinn Flood, Heidi Higgins, Deirdre Harte, Lisa Shawgi and Sinead Doyle among others. It all sounds pretty darn great, plus there will be music and refreshments throughout the evening. Tickets are priced at €15 each and are available from Temple Bar Cultural Centre or www.tickets.ie. See an interview with organiser Lisa Shawgi here.
