The Irish Times gets Gloss’ed

The Gloss MagazineI just saw this on The Gloss’s website:

Gloss shall be arriving with The Irish Times, on the first Thursday of every month. In a new, larger size, the beautiful fashion photography, smart beauty news and shopping tip-offs will pop off the page, and relevant, witty features will continue to stand out”.

It sounds great, but does it mean that we can still buy in on the shelves or is The Gloss now simply a supplement to The Irish Times??? Hmmm. I hope the recession has not taken its toll on yet another glossy mag…

Oasis and The September Issue Competition

The September Issue croppedMuch anticipated fashion docu-movie, The September Issue, is set for release next Friday week, and I just heard on the Dublin fashion grapevine the following, seriously awesome competition that is running in Oasis stores…

“There is an in-store comp running in conjunction with The September Issue (until the 4th Sept). Customers fill in card for a chance to win a trip to London with front row seats at a fashion show. They will also win a VIP goody bag and a private styling session in Oasis London. The winner will also be put up in the Hoxton hotel London”.

That sounds like a competition that’s definitely worth a bash at. For a list of Oasis stores Ireland wide click here.

AW09 Wardrobe Staple

Micro Mesh Long Sleeve Mini Dress €45If pennies are a bit tight and you’re not 100% sure about what to invest in this season, may I suggest you indulge in a little sheer mesh? The sheer thing has been seen on catwalks and red carpets alike over the last few months and this season has seen it filter through to the high street.

Now before you recoil in horror at this picture, let me just say that it’s from an American Apparel shoot, which should explain a few things. Plus unless you are lady Gaga, no-one is expecting you to wear this sheer mesh dress like this!

Of course if you are brave enough, (and have the figure enough) you can team it with a bandeau top and some hot pants or a leotard underneath. For everyone else, think clever layering; e.g. a bandeau dress underneath followed by a pretty floral skirt over the top. Think of the mesh as just a yoke and sleeves and wear it under the dresses you have in your wardrobe already. This will update them into an on-trend look for AW09.

American Apparel Dublin, have the micro-mesh dress in a few different colours plus loads of ways to wear them… Continue reading ‘AW09 Wardrobe Staple’

Dress to Die for

White Structured Dress AW09 Zara

Heavenly isn’t it… It’s from Zara and although it is in ‘shell’ which is quite a light shade for Autumn / Winter it is utterly divine and is in a wool blend which makes it great for the chillier months. I literally just saw it on their site and fell in love with it, it is €79.95 which is an okay price for such a structured on-trend dress. I reckon it would look great with bare legs for the last few days of warm weather in September (keep those fingers crossed for an Indian Summer people). It will also work well throughout the party season, I’m just not 100% sure it will work well with black opaque tights.. oh well, only one way to find out…!

Street Style Inspiration

I was on the Topshop blog, as we bloggers need to see what wonders are being posted about in the bloggosphere. Little Boots was a guest blogger for Topshop earlier this year style-hunting in Bristol and Nottingham. She posted this pic and I have fallen in love with this outfit. It’s a perfect mix of vintage floral and edgy rock chick.

Topshop Street Style Blog 1It’s a perfect outfit for trudging around the vintage markets in Dublin this weekend! Thank you Little Boots and cool Nottingham chica!

AW09 Topshop Freedom Jewellery

Appolo silver spike stretch Bracelet €28 lo res

The library at the Dylan Hotel D4, was transformed into a veritable treasure chest yesterday with a press preview of the AW09 Freedom for Topshop jewellery collection. I was in bijou heaven and surrounded by some fierce jewellery pieces. The new collection has 5 different lines; Apollo, Bolshoi, Boujis, Heidi and Survivor with independent themes for each.

Apollo’ is all about space age elements and futuristic styling. It has studded bracelets and chunky rings and necklaces embellished with beaten and etched high-shine metals.

‘Bolshoi’ is inspired by the Russian ballet and is all about antique styled diamonds and pearls with feather tiaras and huge, muti-drop necklaces. This collection is totally indulgent.

Boujis‘ is the party season collection, all bright jewel-coloured enamels and rhinestones in pretty floral designs, on everything from over-sized earrings to statement cocktails rings.

‘Heidi’ is inspired by a Swiss milk maid idea, the collection is made from hand-carved wood and felt flowers to create a pretty collection that is topped with bells, bows and beading.

Finally, ‘Survivor’; this line is the tough big brother of the collection. It is all about sleek metal lines embellished with spikes, distressed leather and dyed feathers to create a fashion-forward, edgy line.

This last line is incredible, some of the pieces, especially the statement necklaces are absolute must-haves. Because the gold coloured metal is brushed you can accessorise loads of different looks with these pieces. More pics below…

Itching to shop? Try Dublin Flea Market this weekend.

Dublin Flea Market 30th Aug

Dublin’s next Fleamarket is to be held this Sunday, August 30th the usual spot, The Coop, Newmarket, D8.

The market is the monthly home of some rather fab people selling, as they put it, “a bizarre bazaar of vintage clothing, bric-a-brac and what-not’s”.

From vintage coats to antique jewellery this martket has so much to shop for. There are also some independent designers selling their wares as well as stalls selling food and snacks, all to the sound of some jazz or funk band or another.

It is definitely worth a drop by for an hour or so, to get more of an idea click here for Flea TV, showing video clips from previous markets. (Episode 10 with Chayka is fabulous!)

Kemberley Walsh is the face of New Look

New Look kimberley walsh Girls Aloud AW09I was pretty much ‘meh’ when I heard that Kimberley Walsh had been recruited as the face of New Look. Another celeb, another collaboration, another collection etc… She is a member of the most successful girl-band in Britain and she comes across as a very sweet, likeable chica. So it would be no great surprise if any of the mainstream high street fashion stores would want her to represent their brand. The pictures, over all, are okay but this look is the one that really suits the Girls Aloud girl. I think it’s because I find it so totally not Girls Aloud, that I find it so refreshing. It’s cutesy but grown up, it’s laid-back cool, it’s American lumberjack meets Kiera Knightly on a day off. I also don’t think I’ve seem Kimberley look so relaxed and at home in something either.

In Brogues – AW09 Trend Alert

I’m a high-heeled girl. There is no escaping the fact that I feel more confident and (mostly) more comfortable in heels. My posture is better, I don’t slouch, my head is up straight and my shoulders are back. But every now and again, totally unexpectedly, I get this almighty urge to set my feet more firmly on the ground.

This morning was one of those times… I was late for the bus, it was beginning to rain and I had no umbrella. As the No. 16 sailed by me, I tottered along through the fast-forming puddles and decided once and for all that I shall invest in a fabulous pair of flat shoes. Had I been wearing them at that point, I could have skipped to the bus stop, jumped onto the bus and sat in the dry. Instead I tottered to the stop, missed the bus and ended up soggy, frizzy and ten minutes late.

Don’t get me wrong I do own flat shoes, but they serve purposes; like hiking boots for hiking, runners for ‘running’ and flip flops for all things beach and BBQ. None of these shoes will work with any of my day to day city outfits; but Brogues will!

AW09 Trend - brogues copyAny of these pairs will do but the purple flock Browns ones, or the plain tan Schuh ones will do very nicely indeed thank you santa. (too early?). Both these pairs would go with everything; smart enough to wear with suits and city-wear but casual enough to rock them with jeans. I likey, nay I wanty.

Classic: Top: Black and cream, Jazz brogues £25 New Look; Mel Lace Brogue £49.99 Schuh; Black and white, Kameryn brogue shoes £55 Topshop.

Contemporary: Top: Giraffe print brogues £65 Urban Outfitters; Melissa lace-up flocked shoe £65 Browns; Metallic brogue-trimmed pump £20 New Look.
